Home Grown Talent

MLB - Mike FoltynewiczMike Foltynewicz, the only child of his biggest supporters, Gary and Cindy was born in Sterling,IL on October 7, 1991.

He was 4 when his family moved to Harvard, IL. He played with the harvard Boy's League for three years. At the age of 8 he played on his first travel team, the Woodstock Lightning.

His family moved to Minooka the summer he was to turn 10. Michael played with the Minooka All-Stars from 6th grate to 8th grade.

His success on the diamond ended his Jr. High career with an 8th grade state championship.

Next stop Minook High School. As a freshman, he started out on the sophomore team. He ended up playing with the varsity team by the end of the year. The rest of his high school career he played on the varsity team.

Summer of his junior year he played with the Illinois Sparks, a travel team that played out of Bo Jackson/Cangelosi baseball dome out of Lockport, Illinois. They traveled to Georgia for a showcase tournament and that is where the University of Texas pitching coach saw Mike play. He was offered a scholarship to play for the Texas Longhorns and accepted.

After entertaining almost every MLB area scout durning his senior year, he was drafted in the first round by the Houston Astros on June 7, 2010 as their 19th pick over all.
