Minooka Rivercats 14U win the 2018 Aurora Spring Fling

Saturday May 5th – Pool Play
Minooka Rivercats 11, Geneva Vikings Blue 1
In the first pool game, Frankie Hummel started for Minooka and pitched 3.2 innings while striking out five Viking hitters. The Rivercat offense was led by Ryan Norman, Sam Warren, and Ivan Dahlberg with two hits each, with Norman driving in two runs with a double. Frankie Hummel helped himself with a two RBI double, while Adem Osmani added a hit and two stolen bases.

Minooka Rivercats 13, ESP Black 5
In the second pool game, the Rivercats offense exploded for 15 hits. Caleb Parker went 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Leadoff hitter Mitch Thomas went 3-4 including a triple and two RBI. Matthew Medlin, Ryan Norman, and Ivan Dahlberg all added two hits each, while Louie Johnson and Charlie Diiulio had three RBI each. Nolan Larson started for Minooka, pitching two innings with three strikeouts, and Mitch Thomas added two scoreless innings of relief. Minooka earns the #2 seed going into bracket play.

Sunday May 6th – Bracket Play
Minooka Rivercats 10, Geneva Vikings Blue 6
In a sloppy game, the Minooka Rivercats offense came alive late and was enough to overcome an early deficit. Ryan Norman went 3-4 with 3 RBI. Charlie Diiulio, Caleb Parker, Dominick Calleros, and Mitch Thomas all added two hits for the Rivercats. Caleb Parker pitched a strong four innings, while Adem Osmani closed out the game with three innings of relief.

Minooka Rivercats 5, Carol Stream Cougars 1
In the semi-final game, Minooka jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and then pitched their way to the victory. Mitch Thomas let the Rivercat offense, going 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Caleb Parker, Adem Osmani, and Nolan Larson added two hits each. Ryan Norman contributed a two run single. On the mound for the Rivercats, Ryan Norman started and pitched four scoreless innings and Dominic Calleros pitched three innings of quality relief to close out the victory and send Minooka to the Championship Game.

Minooka Rivercats 6, ESP Black 4
In the Championship game, Minooka jumped to an early lead and held off the top ESP team’s late charge. The Minooka offense was fueled by two hits each by Mitch Thomas and Ivan Dahlberg. Caleb Parker, Charlie Diiulio, Louie Johnson, Frankie Hummel, and Adem Osmani all added hits. Ryan Norman’s two run safety squeeze bunt turned out to be key insurance runs in the game, as it plated Ivan Dahlberg and Charlie Diiulio scored on a throwing error. Frankie Hummel added four stolen bases for the Cats. On the mound, Ivan Dahlberg started and pitched four strong innings, while allowing only one run. Ryan Norman came on with one out in the 7th inning to snuff out a late ESP rally with a strikeout and a pop out of the three and four hitters for ESP. Friday April 27th:
Minooka Rivercats 17, Illinois Hawks 0
In pool play, Ryan Norman threw a run rule shortened No Hitter, with three strike outs, while walking one. The Minooka offense was led by Ivan Dahlberg with three hits and three RBI, while Caleb Parker, Charlie Diiulio, Ryan Norman, and Frankie Hummel all added two hits each. Louie Johnson drove in three runs.

Saturday April 28th:
Minooka Rivercats 14, Oswego Cobras 4
In the second pool play game, the Rivercats pounded out fourteen hits on their way to a run rule victory. Charlie Diiulio went 2-2 with three RBI, while Ivan Dahlberg, Sam Warren, Dominic Calleros, Louie Johnson, and Mitch Thomas each had two hits. Adem Osmani added a pair of RBI and tossed a perfect inning of relief. Frankie Hummel started and racked up five strikeouts for Minooka. Rivercats earn the number one seed, headed into bracket play.

Sunday April 29th: Semi-Final Game
Minooka Rivercats 12, Oswego Cobras 2
In the semi-final, Ryan Norman threw a run rule shortened complete game, allowing only two unearned runs. The Minooka offense was fueled by Caleb Parker’s 3-3 with four RBI performance. While Mitch Thomas, Frankie Hummel, and Adem Osmani each added two hits. Dominic Calleros and Louie Johnson had two RBI each, with Johnson’s coming on a towering two run homer to left. Minooka heads to the championship game.

Minooka Rivercats 13, Fox Valley Freedom 10
In a wild affair, the Rivercats pulled out the late victory after Ryan Norman singled home the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning, followed by a mammoth two run homer to center by Ivan Dahlberg to provide the final scoring. Charlie Diiulio led the Minooka offense with three hits and an RBI. Mitch Thomas and Caleb Parker each supplied two hits, while Adem Osmani singled home two runs during an early rally. Ivan Dahlberg started and pitched four strong shutout innings, while racking up 10 strikeouts. After the relief pitching and defense for Minooka faltered, Adem Osmani pitched a perfect seventh inning including strike outs of the final two Freedom batters. The 14U Minooka Rivercats are the champions of the USSSA Troy Spring Classic Tournament!
